Good Afternoon Fountain International Magnet School Families!

This is Charlotte Martinez with our weekly updates.  Thank you to everyone who helped out with the FIMS’ Earth Day Celebrations! Everyone’s donations and volunteering made this year’s event awesome! We were amazed at how many cans were collected! Our winning grade level who collected the most cans was kindergarten. Great job!

Also, thank you to all of the parents who attended our No Bully System Informational and Visioning Meeting! We have now posted a survey link about bullying that we would like all parents to complete. The survey link can be found on the FIMS’ Webpage and on the text version of this message. The survey should only take about three to five minutes to complete and will be available for one week.

We can to congratulate on Destination Imagination Team, The Artistic Engineers, who competed in Denver this weekend for the State Competition. They took 13th place out of 20 teams! Awesome job students!

This week’s events begin with our 2nd Graders’ Musical Performance, which will occur on Tuesday, April 25th, at 6:30 PM in the Pueblo East High School Auditorium.

On Wednesday, April 27th, we will be taking class pictures! And just a quick reminder about uniforms since we are now in the warmer months. Please make sure the shorts are the standard uniform short and not cargo shorts. Also if girls are wearing skirts and dresses without tights, it is a good idea to have students wear a pair of shorts underneath skirts and dresses on days that they have gym.  Also, on Wednesday, we have a 5K ROAR for Fitness Race Planning Committee Meeting after school on Wednesday, at 3:45 PM.

On Thursday, April 27th, we will have a Gardening Committee Meeting at 4:00 PM.  Anyone interested in helping out with our school garden is welcome to attend.

Then on Friday, April 28th, we will collect our Box Tops for one last time this year. Please send all of your saved Box Tops with your students on Friday to be turned into their teachers. The class with the most and best trimmed Box Tops will earn a class incentive. Also on Friday, we will have our 3rd to 4th Grade Transition Day Field Trip to Corwin International. Third grade students will tour the school and meet teachers. Third grade students attending this field trip will need to be picked up and Fountain International at 3:20 PM on Friday.

Finally, for parents who are still in need of volunteering hours, we have several upcoming opportunities!  First, Teacher Appreciation Week is next week, May 1st through the 5th.  We will have more volunteering opportunities connected with this event posted later this week on Sign-Up. Also, this Saturday, April 29th, we will have a FIMS’ Spring Clean-Up Day Volunteering Opportunity! We will work on getting the playground, garden area, and front entrance cleaned up and ready for spring. The Spring Clean-Up will run from 8 AM to 11:30 AM on Saturday morning. So if you are in need of volunteer hours, plan to meet us on Saturday in the front of the school with gloves and gardening tools!

Good Afternoon Fountain International Magnet School Families,

This is Charlotte Martinez with our weekly updates. We want to congratulate all of our third grade students on their efforts with the State PARCC Assessment. They worked very hard all throughout the week. Great job third grade students!

We have some exciting events scheduled this week and a great opportunity for families to earn  some volunteer hours in the evening!

First, on this Monday, April 17th, our Earth Day Committee will meet at 5:00 PM. Then we will have a Gifted and Talented Meeting at 6:00 PM on this Monday as well. Meetings will take place in the learning commons areas.

On Tuesday, we will have our Student of the Month Breakfast at 7:50 AM in the FIMS’ Gym.

On Wednesday, April 19th, our second grade students will take a field trip to Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center. Also on Wednesday, from 3:30 to 4:30 PM, the Noetic Math Contest will take place for third grade students who are signed up for this assessment.

On Thursday, April 20th, our second grade students will take a short field trip to the Rawlings Library to hear a guest author speak. Also on Thursday, we will have our No Bully System Informational and Visioning Meeting from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. We would love to have as many families as possible attend this meeting. Parents who attend may receive two hours of volunteer time. This meeting is designed for adults, but if the only way that you can attend is to bring your students, then please come anyway! Snacks will be provided.

Finally on Friday, April 21st, our school will be celebrating Earth Day! This day is a fun event for everyone as our students will be planting new trees --  thank you to the donation from one of our parents at the Start Nursery. We will also have a recycled art contest, plant sale, and uniform sale! Students are able to wear a green shirt or spirit shirt and jeans to school for $1 on this day, which will go towards our school's recycling program.  Our school will also be collecting aluminum cans on April 21st.  Cans can be dropped off in the loop on Friday, and we will have volunteers who will put cans in designated grade level bins. The grade with the most cans will earn a free crazy sock day. And parents are welcome to join students for a picnic lunch in the garden area, weather permitting.

We have several opportunities for volunteering. For example, if you would like to help out in getting our garden area ready for summer, please call the school and let us know when you can come help. We will have tools and supplies ready for you. Also, we have several items needing to be donated for our Earth Day Celebration, and we will be taking uniform donations this week at school, and parents may receive 1 hour of volunteer time for bringing in your bag of donated uniforms. Please mark your bag with your student’s name and grade. For information on the Earth Day Celebration and events scheduled this week, please see the FIMS’ Web Page. We have also attached a link to volunteering opportunities on the text version of this message.
