Good Afternoon Fountain International Magnet School Families!

This is Charlotte Martinez with our weekly updates.  Thank you for all of your support for our Read-A-Thon! We were amazed that our students read 63,892 minutes and raised over $8,000 jaw dropping dollars! Thank you so much!

This week on Tuesday, May 23rd, our FIMS’ Choir will have their End-of-Year Performance at 6:30 PM in the FIMS’ Gym.

Then on Wednesday, May 24th, our kindergarten students will take a field trip to the River Walk. Two of our first grade classrooms will take a field trip to the Nature Center, and our third grade students will be watching a Science Matters Presentation with a guest speaker. Most importantly, on Wednesday, we will have our General PTO Meeting at 6:00 PM. This is an important meeting because we will have our office elections. Officer Election Forms can be downloaded on the FIMS’ Webpage, and we would like as many parents as possible to attend.  Parents can receive two volunteer hours for attending this meeting!

On Thursday, May 25th, our other two first grade classrooms will take their field trip to the Nature Center. Also, on Thursday at 6:00 PM, we will have our Annual FIMS’ Student Art Show in the FIMS’ Gymnasium. We are still in need of volunteers to help with the Art Show Set-Up, and the link to those opportunities can be found on the text version of this message and on the FIMS Webpage.  Speaking of volunteer hours, we have several parents who have zero hours entered even though we know that they have volunteered. Please let Ms. Joy know if you need help entering those hours.

Finally, mark your calendars that Friday, May 26th, will be the last day for our Morning Fun Sessions for this school year. Additionally, all FIMS’ Library books are due.  We want to give parents one last opportunity to look through the Lost and Found Items before sending them off.  Please take time during the upcoming Art Show on Thursday to look through these items. On Friday, the remaining items will be bagged up and sent to a local organization that will give the items to families in need.

One last reminder, Fidget Spinners have made their way to Fountain International, and even though they are very popular among students, only students who have these items built into a specific plan should have them at school. Otherwise these items are serving as more of a toy and are causing conflicts between students and classroom learning.

Thank you for all your support and have a great day!

Good Afternoon and Happy Mother’s Day Fountain International Magnet School Families!

This is Charlotte Martinez with our weekly updates. First, we want to start off by telling all of our students how proud we are of all of the reading they did during the Read-A-Thon! We were truly amazed at how many hours students read when the forms were turned in to Mrs. Burke. We appreciate our families’ support for this activity!

On Monday, May 15th, we will have our Skate Night at Skate City from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. This is our last Skate Night for the school year, so we hope to get as many students as possible to enjoy this activity.

On Wednesday, May 17th, the Superintendent Writing Awards Ceremony will take place, and Sophia Wiggins took first place for her creative writing piece, and she will be acknowledged at this event. Also on Wednesday, our Science Day Committee will be setting up for the Science Day, which will take place on Thursday, May 18th, 2017. The Science Day is an all day learning experience that exposes students to the many aspects and careers within science realm.

On Friday, May 19th, we will have our Read-A-Thon Finale Assembly at 9:00 AM. Also, on Friday, our students will have an extra early release. Students will be released at 12:00 PM (noon), so that elementary staff can attend a District wide training on the No Bully System. Buses will run on this day. Also on Friday, ink cartridges are due. We have been receiving a lot of ink cartridges, which is wonderful, and the class with the most turned in to the school, will receive an incentive of their choice.

Finally, please keep in mind the following reminders. If you are a parent who is thinking about being more involved in our Parent Teacher Organization, think about running for a PTO Officer position. Our PTO Officer Nomination Forms are posted on the Fountain webpage, and Elections will take place at Wednesday, May 24th Meeting. This is an important meeting where we would love to have as many parents attend as possible, and parents can receive two hours of volunteer service just for attending this meeting.

Also please make sure that you go to the Fountain Webpage under the “Volunteer” tab and log all volunteer hours that you have completed this year.  Parent Volunteer Hour Letters will go home this week, so parents can see how many hours they have for the school year. Parent involvement and volunteering is a required expectation for Fountain International families and is a belief that our school was founded on, which contributes to the school’s and students’ success. Our next large event where parents can help volunteer is Field Day, and I encourage parents with little or no hours logged to get involved. The link to log hours on the Fountain Webpage is attached to the text version of this message.

This is the last week to check through the Lost and Found Area. Since we are running out of room for our Lost and Found, all items left on this Friday will be donated to an organization that give items to families in need.

The updated 2017-2018 School Calendar has been adjusted to align to CSUP’s Spring Break. A revised calendar is attached to the text version of this message.

I hope you enjoy this Mother’s Day and have a great rest of your weekend!

Good Afternoon Fountain International Magnet School Families!

This is Charlotte Martinez with our weekly updates. We want to thank all of our families once again for a wonderful Teacher’s Appreciation Week! Additionally, thank you to all of the families who helped out with the FIMS’ Spring Clean-Up Day! Our garden area is beautiful and ready for planting!

We also want to send out congratulations to our FIMS’ Choir Students who sang the National Anthem at the Colorado Rockies Game on Saturday! We also want to congratulation Sophia Wiggins, who won first place in the Superintendent’s Writing Contest for a creative writing piece. Awesome job students!

This week on Monday, May 8th, we will have our Required New Parent Enrollment Meeting at 6:15 PM in the FIMS’ Gym. Tours will begin for new families at 5:00 PM. This meeting is for all parents who will have new students entering FIMS for the 2017-2018 school year.

On Tuesday, May 9th, we will have our Student of the Month Breakfast at 7:50 AM in the FIMS’ Gym.  Also on this day, we will be recognizing our school’s winner for Teacher of the Year, who is Mrs. Benavidez! Congratulations to her! The Teacher of the Year Recognition Ceremony will take place at the Administration Building from 3:30 to 5:00 PM.

On Thursday, May 11th, Read-A-Thon Pledge Forms are due!  Students have been reading like crazy especially after our last week’s spirit week! Please help to remind them to turn in their pledge forms on Thursday.

On Friday, we will have our Muffins for Moms Celebration! All moms or special family friends are welcome to enjoy a muffin with their students. The Muffins for Mom Event will take place from 7:30 AM to 8:15 AM. If you would still like to help out with this event, please see the Sign-Up Link at in the text version of this message and on the FIMS’ Webpage under Recent Announcements. Friday is also the due date for our new student enrollment paperwork.

Finally, we received information that our Letter Carriers are hosting a program this week called Stamp Out Hunger. This is a food drive that will take place in schools and businesses this week. Our letter is supposed to drop off a canned food collection box this week. So if you would like to donate any canned goods, please feel free to drop them by the school, and we will give them to our letter carrier. Boxes will be picked up on May 12th.

We also want to remind parents of a schedule change that the District communicated to families a few weeks ago. On Friday, May 19th, students will have an extra early release day for a District Elementary No Bully System Training. Students will be released at noon (12:00 PM) on this day.
